TRAFFIC EXCHANGES ARE PROGRAMS WHERE YOU SURF FOR CREDITS IN EXCHANGE FOR ADVERTISING. THE MORE YOU SURF, THE MORE ADVERTISING CREDITS YOU ACCUMULATE.

The above sums up why people use them, i.e. they want the credits surfing brings them so that their site is shown to more people.   But surfing is not the only way to get credits, you can also purchase them.    Most Traffic Exchanges offer you credits at a reduced (usually half) price.    But most people use them wrongly.  Ask yourself if you would click on an affiliate link while surfing to get yourself credits.
